The world is changing rapidly and for many habitats and wildlife species on land and at sea, disastrously. Conservation work is urgent now in the most threatened places; experts say lion populations in East Africa are down 90% in the last decades, for instance. These creatures are iconic and inspiring for their majestic appearance, yes, but also for their stunning calls. The MGM lion doesn’t simply gaze down at us from the big screen; it snarls. Conservation Sound will work with leading conservation organizations, researchers and public and private institutions to gather aural images of these and other creatures in their natural settings… while they still exist. We regretfully expect that some of these recordings – carefully planned, finely detailed, thorough and accurate – will become a final aural archive of once remote parts of the world before landscapes change, and development of wild areas and richly diverse habitats proceeds.
